Shop Mechanic

Location: Roanoke, VA

Salary Range: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour


Job Description

Primary responsibilities are diagnosing problems and performing standard mechanical and electronic repairs to diesel, gas, and propane engines.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform minor and major repairs as needed.

  • Diagnose and repair with limited supervision.

  • Maintain personal and shop tools in good working order.

  • Work with drawings, specifications, and service manuals.

  • Comply with all company safety procedures, adheres to all shop and operating procedures as applicable.

  • Perform skilled tasks in the diagnosis of malfunctions, repairs, preventive maintenance, adjustments, and overhauls.

  • Use OEM software, tools, and technologies to maintain, diagnose, and complete repairs to promptly address and resolve customer vehicle or equipment concerns.

  • Maintain work area in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.

  • Maintain open communication with shop manager, branch manager team regarding job/repair status updates and changes.

  • Safely operate all types of commercial/passenger vehicles, forklifts/Donkeys and equipment.

  • Flexibility and mechanical ability are a requirement.

  • Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.

  • Mechanical skills.

  • Valid Driver’s License (CDL or ability to get CDL required) and clean driving record.

  • Basic computer skills. The use of Microsoft Office and service software will be required to complete service reports and provide details to work orders.

  • The ability to project a professional positive image.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. The ability to write service reports that accurately report the diagnosis and repairs performed. Must document work orders, parts lists in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Able to work overtime as required by job and organization demand.

  • Able to travel to branch locations when necessary (some overnights occasionally)

 

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • One year minimum automotive and diesel mechanic experience

  • Possess own tools to perform basic mechanics duties

  • Knowledge of shop and air tools

  • Comprehensive knowledge of diesel, gas, and propane engines

  • Comprehensive understanding of brake systems (air and hydraulic)

  • Tire experience

  • Welding understanding and ability

  • Commercial Driver license OR ability to procure

  • Medical certification to operate vehicles in excess of 10,000lbs.

  • Certifications preferred (DOT Brake, etc.)
